Short Film – ‘A Quick Smoke’ produced by House of Cannabis

For several reasons, House of Cannabis chose to produce a trippy, ambient short film to submit to a few different local film festivals, first of which was SPLIFF Film Festival, which is put on by the producers of the HUMP! amateur pornography festival at least through association with The Stranger in Seattle. We weren’t selected in SPLIFF, nor were 95%+ of the other entries (so we don’t feel too bad), but we are still proud of what we made for less than $115.

Participants included 3 HoC personnel, a representative from Wamsterdam Farms, and one of our employee’s partners. We used two stationary 4k cameras, and a rotating 4k camera, along with Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, and an older version of Cakewalk SONAR 7 Studio. It was recorded in a private studio in Tacoma, Washington. It featured live cannabis consumption and natural conversation which we used as sound bites, and heavily effected. There are several layers of conversation from the counterculture underpinning the video, coupled with a short, varied soundtrack.

Speaking of the soundtrack, we are super happy to have our partners in providing that music. The producers of and performers in this film wish to thank long time friends Sun Atoms and The Fun Police for the kind dedication of their music to this short film. Independent musicians are often paid far too little given the cost of their time and actual cash in investing into recording music. It’s a labor of love. Go see a show (The Fun Police play 04/20 at McMenimens in Tacoma, Sun Atoms at LoFi Performance Space on 04/23 in Seattle at Seagaze). Buy their CDs on Bandcamp or their website. Stream their music on Spotify or Apple Music.

We suggest headphones or a passible sound setup, and dimmed lights. Without further adieu, we’d like to present “A Quick Smoke”, produced by House of Cannabis, and primarily directed by David Centioli.
