New Grower Alert: Artizen/Dream City

Alright I may have told you a white lie just now. We’ve been having Dream City on our shelves since the jump. But guess what?! We just started carrying Artizen!

Out of everything on our shelves these two company’s are absolutely killing it with their online/social media presence. But most importantly what they’re putting into their jars.

Hailing from Port Townsend, Washington, Dream City is sun grown marijuana just how God intended it to be. Well… kind of. They have what I can only observe via the inter-webs a kickass state-of-the-art green house facility that when needed can manipulate the forces of nature, to the best interests of the plant.

Did I mention the amount of Bud Porn that goes into these guys’ instagram? Click the link above and see for yourself. Currently in house we have five strains from Dream City: Nilla Wafer, Jack Herer, Candy Breath, Dosi Pie, and G-Glue #4. As they say on their webpage “Anything in the purple packaging,” and we’ll know what you mean.

Drumroll…The much requested and anticipated Artizen has finally appeared on the shelves at Tacoma House of Cannabis and we couldn’t be more stoked. Grown in Lacey, Washington in a ultra-modern indoor facility, Artizen and it’s indoor facility sets the precedent for indoor growing in the state of Washington. After nearly an hour of searching their instagram and their webpage I still cannot get enough.

In the words of the late great Chris Farley (Tommy Boy) Tommy Likey.

Since this is our first time carrying Artizen flower we only got our hands on two strains. Their Purple Punch and Gorilla Snacks just hit our shelves this week as a sort of first time order test batch. So help us help you and buy these guys up. In return our ordering team can re-up with many more strains in the future. From what I can tell they have 20+ strains available at any given time. And I’d love to get our hands on more. Eighths from these guys’ are retailing for $35 which of course qualify for our top-shelf eighth sale on Wednesday. So do yourself a favor and swing in then and treat your pocket book to a 20% OFF.

“Can I fly with marijuana?”

All the time budtenders are asked about marijuana at the airport. I’m not going to lie the first time or two I was asked, I didn’t feel comfortable speaking on it.

Shortly after legalization, (between 2012-2014) I was under the impression that it was still illegal to have it at the airport and TSA would strictly follow the federal laws. Which state that marijuana is a schedule 1 drug, and if you got caught with a schedule 1 drug at the airport you could very likely be going to a federal penitentiary.

2019 Kyle approaches this question much differently. Now a days when I get asked, “Is it cool if I bring some weed back with me on the plane?” or “How much marijuana can I fly out of Sea-Tac with?” I reply with one simple statement.

It all depends on where you’re flying. I usually elaborate further depending on their answer with a yada yada don’t be flying to Texas, or a yada yada if you’re flying into Cali you good Dogg.

For the purpose of this little instructional ill give my honest official weed at the airport response.

Lets start with the depending on where you’re flying into statement in mind. If I was flying into California or Nevada and I didn’t want to mess around with the expensive prices when I were to land I might pack an 1/8th or two or three in my carry-on luggage. In California the legal limit is about one ounce of flower and eight grams of oil for people 21 years of age and older. In Nevada the limit varies slightly at one ounce of flower and 3.5 grams of oil. Therefore if I was landing in either of those states I would feel comfortable carrying a legal limit’s worth.

I think that in my case I would never check a bag that had marijuana in it especially if I wasn’t landing in a legal state.

According to a TSA instagram post from last 4-20 they jokingly alluded to the fact that they are not looking for marijuana but it is their job requirement to notify when it is found.

“Let us be blunt: TSA officers DO NOT search for marijuana or other illegal drugs. Our screening procedures are focused on security and detecting potential threats. But in the event a substance appears to be marijuana or a cannabis infused product, we’re required by federal law to notify law enforcement. This includes items that are used for medicinal purposes.”

TSA on instagram

When I read the quote from TSA i understand it as, as long as local law enforcement has no problem with me carrying the given amount of marijuana when I step outside the airport then I should be fine, but they don’t straight up say that, and legally they are probably not advised to.

According to a Kiro7 article it is legal to have fewer than 40 grams of marijuana in your checked bag or carry-on when you arrive at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

In Washington State the legal carry limit is one ounce of flower and seven grams of oil, 40 grams of marijuana is almost 1.5 times the legal limit so I have no idea how they came up with that one. Let me real quick throw a disclaimer out to make the bosses happy, at NO point in this post am I offering advice on or advising to fly through an airport with any sort of marijuana, pot, weed, cannabis, ganga, sensimilla, grass, or any other colloquialism.

Safe travels my high flying peeps.

NFL’s stance on Cannabis: No

Football season is finally upon us, for all of us die hard fans our time to rejoice is now! Personally, the nostalgia and joy I get from the NFL season, rivals that of a Christmas morning for your average child. Between the fantasy football, the pig skin pick ‘em leagues, or just watching my Hawks battle it out every week, I freaking love the NFL. Some may call that a little bit immature and you know… I’m okay with that.

What I’m NOT okay with is the stance that the NFL has repeatedly taken on the topic of cannabis. Year after year the NFL is forced to take stances on issues that come up in the media’s spotlight.

Whether it’s the league ambivalently taking sides on social issues like what Kaepernick was kneeling during the national anthem for, or the league straight up enforcing penalties on players for actions in their personal lives.

With Kaepernick, teams around the league boycotted him as a player and wouldn’t roster him even though he was good enough and better than many players around the league. They didn’t want him to use the NFL stage as an outlet for the social issues he was advocating.

On account of this being a weed blog I’ll pump the brakes and get back to my element… cannabis. The NFL in the past, has been notorious for enforcing harsher penalties to players that test positive for marijuana, then athletes who have committed violent crimes.

Martellus Bennett, a retired NFL player, recently went on a Bleacher Report podcast and said that he thinks 89 percent of active NFL players smoke weed.

“There are times of the year where your body just hurts so bad,” Bennett said. “You don’t want to be popping pills all the time. There are anti-inflammatory drugs you take so long that they start to eat at your liver, kidneys and things like that. A human made that. God made weed.”

Andrew Brandt, writer for Sports Illustrated had this to say about the NFL and cannabis testing, “It is not a drug test; it is an intelligence test. Players who have not previously tested positive are only tested once a year, and only during a four-month offseason window that begins on April 20 (yes, 4/20, maybe the NFL does have a sense of humor) and ends on August 9.”

Nate Jackson, another retired NFL player, was interviewed on Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel and said that he thinks 50% of players in the NFL locker room smoke weed. When asked on his personal consumption of cannabis in the NFL, Jackson said, “I weeded as needed.” He then went on to say how viable cannabis has been to him as a medical alternative to painkillers.

I may disagree with the league in the stance they take on various issues but I’m not going to lie, they have a goddamn awesome product and I subscribe to it religiously. But hey at least I stream my gameday bootleg-style on the internet.

Happy first week of football ya’ll, GO HAWKS!!!

Hempfest on the Horizon

Reminiscing of past Hempfests… always such a stoned memory. Our Seattle Hempfest weekends usually started in Bremerton. My friends and I would congregate for the free ferry ride to Seattle where we would roll joints in the bathroom to gear up for the brutal walk North. Once we landed in Seattle if we weren’t feeling bougee enough to flag down a bike cart we would get to stepping quickly so we could start sparking those freshly rolled joints in the safety of the Hempfest gates.

Before a recreational market was established in Washington my friends and I would always be super excited to accumulate edibles from various sources at Hempfest. Once a year we would have access to all these awesome new stoners that we would never get access to in our hometown little stoner circles. My strategy was always to seek out the hippiest looking grandmas because they would never disappoint when it came to dank ass edibles. Boy did I bite off more than I could chew one or two times, lets just thank god for the massive amount of food vendors that are available for us at the Munchie Market. Nowadays it’s very easy to get your hands on tasty baked goods or any type of edible with recreational stores scattered everywhere, my friends, we’re spoiled compared to how it used to be.

The more I think about it, Hempfest is like a weed smoker’s version of comic-con, it has everything, and anything weed related legally available, except for marijuana. So be smart; bring some doobies, blunts, vape pens, edibles, whatever your heart desires just practice good safe consumption habits, partake once you get inside the gates. Don’t forget to bring a little extra cash to avoid getting slaughtered by the ATM fee’s and lines. One more tip, you’re allowed to bring your own water through the gates. We all know what its like to get caught with some brutal cotton mouth on a dazed August day, so do yourself a favor and bring that thirst quencher.
