Reduce Trips Out by Stocking Up on Cannabis

As you all know, life has rapidly changed in the past couple of weeks. Public health concerns have been escalating on account of COVID-19. Across Pierce County, schools have been closed for at least 6 weeks. And just this week, Washington Governor Jay Inslee delivered an address encouraging Washingtonians to stay home with exceptions for vital trips outside of the home.

Fortunately, cannabis retailers will remain open as our state continues to address COVID-19 concerns. Washington State politicians have deemed that cannabis retailers are essential businesses, meaning they will be allowed to operate under the circumstances. Here at House of Cannabis, we are appreciative that our state recognizes that access to cannabis is essential; because it is.

For more on our right to continue to operate as an essential business, see our blog post about this here

Build Up Your Stash & Reduce the Need to Go Out

Although we don’t foresee any cannabis retail closures, now may still be the right time to focus on stocking up your personal cannabis supply. By stocking up on a larger supply, you can reduce the number of times you need to leave the house. In an era where our ability to limit exposure to the general public is key, this is a good strategy for keeping yourself healthy… and still sufficiently high!

If you are considering making a large purchase, we encourage that you utilize any available discounts you may have earned by stacking up Loyalty points at House of Cannabis. This can be a great way to save money. And, it’s exciting for us when people redeem their well-earned discounts; It feels like Christmas morning every time we see a customer save a bunch of money on a huge purchase!

Below, I will outline some recommended House of Cannabis products to consider if you’re going to be increasing your at-home stash.

Flower

We carry a lot of wonderful farms that package their flower into larger package sizes, including quarters, halves, and ounces. Grabbing a substantial amount of flower ensures that you’ll have enough to roll up for days or weeks to come (depending on how often you toke up, of course!!).

At House of Cannabis, we carry many high-volume flower options, from value cannabis all the way to top-shelf. We carry high-volume options from many brands, including Loud, Phat Panda, Pilot, Bondi Farms, Acme Diesel, Heritage, and Big Ridge. Here are a few brands we’d like to showcase:

Pilot

Pilot is an excellent local brand. Their flower is supreme and their grower has been in the cannabis industry since the medical days.

Virginia Co.

Virgina Co’s flower is looking amazing these days – and, as many customers have commented, it tastes great! Virginia Co’s “Collision Kush” is available for $100 for 14g. Currently out of stock but we are awaiting a shipment soon! Look out for this on the shelf or ask a budtender.

Loud

Loud’s excellent “Acai Gelly” flower. This stuff sparkles it’s so frosty. Budtender Heather bought an ounce of this strain last week.

Pre-Rolls

Stocking up on pre-rolls can be an excellent way to maintain an adequate cannabis supply at home. The great thing about pre-rolls is that they are incredibly “easy” – you don’t need to grind up or roll a thing, because the producers have already taken care of this for you.

At House of Cannabis, we have many excellent pre-roll options, including both infused and non-infused. Here are a few great go-tos:

Bondi Farms pre-rolls, available in “Lemon Haze”, “Diesel Haze”, “Cherry Do Si Dos”, “Obama Kush”, and “God’s Gift”, are $10 for 2 x 0.5g joints.

Artizen pre-rolls, available in “Blue Dream”, “Forum Cookies”, and “Gallactic Glue” are $10 for 2 x 0.5g joints.

Virginia Co. pre-rolls, available in an assortment of strains, are truly an amazing deal – 2 x 1g joints (full gram joints!) for just $10.

We also have 5 packs of joints available, a great option for when you’re buying in bulk. Two excellent options include the Perma 5-pack and the Weed Bunny 5-pack, which is currently 40% off!

Perma 5-Pack

Perma’s Pre-roll 5-pack, 5 x 1g joints, available for $15.

Weed Bunny 5-Pack

Weedbunny’s Pre-roll 5-pack, 5 x 1g joints, normally $15 but currently on sale for just $9.

Edibles & Drinks

As you build up your supply, consider adding edibles or infused drinks into the mix. Both options are excellent for parents who don’t want to “light up” in front of their kiddos who are at home from school.

These pre-dosed consumables are a fun way to get toasty and also treat yourself… you deserve it.

Cornerstone’s chocolate squares, which come in a variety of flavors, are just $18 for a bag of ten.

Smokies Edibles, available in both sour and sweet flavors, are $25 for a bag of ten fruit chews.

Capsules, Tinctures, & Topicals

Similar to solid edibles, capsules, tinctures, and topicals are a great way to experience the healing properties of cannabis without smoking anything. Discrete and easy to dose, these product options provide us with a very accessible approach to incorporating cannabis into our daily lives.

Consider that achieving your desired level of CBD or THC intake could be as simple as adding a few drops of tincture into your morning coffee. Or even your cocktail – whatever you are crafting at home during your extended homestay!

Ceres tinctures come in a variety of options, including THC-only and also CBD:THC formulations. The “Lifted Sativa” formula is $20 for 100mg THC and the “Balance 1:1” formula is $30 for 100 mg CBD and 100 mg THC.

Concentrates

If you are a dabber, we have your concentrate needs covered. We carry a full range of options, and grams of concentrate are available for $12/g all the way up to $60/gram.

Come in and grab some concentrate to add to your supply! Keep in mind that the legal limit for a concentrate purchase is 7 grams per person per day.

Dabstract is always an amazing choice when it comes to sourcing a premium concentrate. Great taste, high potency, and fun strain names. What more could you want? Each gram of Dabstract concentrate is $40.

Vape Cartridges

Vape cartridges may be just what you’re looking for during this additional time at home. Vaping is a great option for when you just need a little “pick me up” throughout the day. Vaping is also more subtle than smoking, which allows you to maintain a lot of control over your high.

One of the best aspects of vape cartridges and vape pens is that they are super discreet. Even if you’re stuck in tight quarters with your family right now, you’ll be able to puff away without any smell or obvious indication.

We have a broad variety of vape carts available at the store. We also carry cartridges for proprietary pens, including Airopro and PAX Era pens. Vape cartridges range from $20 (for a half gram) through $55 (for a top-shelf & live-resin full gram).

Distillates and RSOs

Incorporating syringes of cannabis distillate or RSO into your at-home cannabis supply can be a great way to get a lot of bang for your buck. These high-potency products are already activated and can be incorporated into butters, cookies, or brownies. If you’re comfortable with the taste, you can even place a dose directly into your mouth for desired effect.

If you are new to consuming distillate or RSO, remember that a little bit goes a long way. We recommend dispensing a “grain of rice” sized portion first and then waiting to see how you react. You can always eat more… but you can never “un-eat” something 🙂

Weed Bunny syringes of cannabis distillate are available for $20 for a full gram. Available strains include “Girl Scout Cookies”, “Skittlez”, and more.

House Of Cannabis is ESSENTIAL! Here’s how we will handle it.

Jess, holding down the bud bar in Tacoma, incognito.

In light of the recent spread of the COVID-19 virus and associated regulations on public behavior, we at House of Cannabis wanted to let you know about the steps we are taking to ensure the safety of our customers and staff during this a-typical moment.

OUR INITIAL RESPONSE COVERING OUR SANITATION AND SPACING STANDARDS CAN BE FOUND, HERE.

The Governor has declared cannabis retail stores and grow/process operations essential. What does this mean?

Well, this is a privilege for society. It means we need to follow the rules. Maintain social spacing, don’t make needless trips, buy enough to last a while when you do venture out, and combine trips for eligible household members to minimize exposure, if possible.

For House of Cannabis stores, we are taking several steps to minimize risk to our employees, as well as the general public. We continue to sanitize frequently. All budtenders are wearing gloves 100% of the time, and we are deploying masks as this week progresses. All shifts have disposable masks, or washable, reusable masks at this moment. Every employee is being issued protective equipment to protect you, and them, should someone be non-symptomatic. As the COVID-19 Coronavirus infection appears quite virulent, I would personally avoid shopping at retail establishments that aren’t taking sanitation and personal barriers very seriously. I assure you that we, at House of Cannabis, are taking this health threat very seriously.

As this situation develops, we remain reactive to the orders of the Governor. He is the singular ultimate authority on if we stay open. It also may become necessary to reduce our hours at any or all of our three stores. If a situation develops locally that creates an environment that means we can’t safely serve the public, we will close our doors.

The State of Washington has just opened up curbside service to all adults 21+ given COVID-19 concerns, and we will be evaluating how to implement that, if possible. If you know what you want from our menu, please feel free to place an online order, and call the store when you arrive if you don’t want to come in.

We are leveraging our partnerships with other cannabis businesses, cannabis professionals, and cannabis trade associations in order to keep up with 1) industry-wide coronavirus best practices and 2) maintain an up-to-date understanding of national and state restrictions on small businesses that could potentially impact our ability to operate.

3/24/2020 @ the Okanogan Stores

If there is any sign that we will need to close up shop, we are committed to communicating this to you, our customers, as soon as we find out. You have been good to us over the years, and so we are committed to being communicative and transparent with all of you through all of this.

Our Requests to Our Customers:

  • If you aren’t feeling well, please stay home. Even if you are feeling well, consider the importance of limiting unnecessary trips out of the house for the sake of public safety.
  • If you are one of our Tacoma patrons, you can order online in order to reduce wait times and limit the length of 1:1 interaction inside of the store. When you order via our online menu, we will prepare the order for you in real-time and set the product aside for up to 48 hours. You can find our online order menu here: Tacoma Online Menu

Thank you for your continued patronage at House of Cannabis. We look forward to continuing to serve you during this difficult time. If you have any questions about how we are dealing with the COVID-19 crisis, please don’t hesitate to give us a call. Stay safe and sane out there!

House Of Cannabis; A statement on COVID-19, and our response.

Lavarse sus manos

In light of the recent spread of the COVID-19 virus and associated regulations on public behavior, we at House of Cannabis wanted to let you know about the steps we are taking to ensure the safety of our customers and staff during this a-typical moment.

First of all, we are taking extra precautions to maintain a clean and sanitary environment within our stores. As frequently as possible, our budtenders are wiping down all surfaces with disinfectant spray, particularly high traffic areas like counters, cash registers, and ATMs. Our budtenders are also wearing gloves during their shifts to prevent the spread of germs while selling cannabis products and facilitating transactions. We have installed public sani-can hand washing stations in front of our Twisp and Tonasket stores.

We are also keeping up with the CDC’s suggestions regarding social distancing and reduced gathering size. Luckily, the smaller footprint of our stores means that crowd size is not likely to exceed 20+ customers at any given time. As we serve customers over the coming weeks and months, we will be sure to move through any lines as quickly as possible. If required, we may implement a policy to reduce the number of customers inside the store at any given time.

Finally, no employees will be allowed to work while displaying symptoms of illness. If any of our budtenders do start to display symptoms, they will be sent home and will be eligible for sick pay.

At this time, we do not anticipate any service interruptions. We are a medically endorsed facility, and we intend to stay open as long as possible to serve everyone’s needs. We will be here in the stores, serving you, for as long as we are permitted to.

While the LCB has just legalized curbside service or delivery for patients and designated caregivers, we are examining how to do this in the most efficient manner. For the time being, if you are a medical cannabis patient and have concerns about stepping inside the store, call and work with a tender in advance to coming in.

That said, we are leveraging our partnerships with other cannabis businesses, cannabis professionals, and cannabis trade associations in order to keep up with 1) industry-wide coronavirus best practices and 2) maintain an up-to-date understanding of national and state restrictions on small businesses that could potentially impact our ability to operate.

If there is any sign that we will need to close up shop, we are committed to communicating this to you, our customers, as soon as we find out. You have been good to us over the years, and so we are committed to being communicative and transparent with all of you through all of this.

PinkBoots420.com – A strong green job resource

We see lots of resumes from prospective job seekers at all three of our stores. Sadly, there aren’t nearly enough jobs at our facilities for all the qualified job seekers that we see. However, the Tacoma and the Seattle area at large have a great resource for the green job seeker. We have a local blogger, Pink Boots 420, who is dedicated to maintaining all the green industry jobs she see’s posted to her blog. The list of things she posts are a LOT longer than just ‘budtender’. . . From marketing to trimming, in fact. You really should check it out over at website (pinkboots420.com) and her Facebook page.

These Pink Boots were made for writing, and Pink Boots is keeping you up to date on job openings. Seriously.

Our signage is changing; it’s not the end of the world.

Yeah, sadly you are seeing that right. The LCB has compelled us to change our signage in accordance with the Washington State Legislature’s bill altering advertising regulations, which passed in 2018. It was enacted this year, and disqualified our billboard from being allowed to advertise our brand, by 4 inches in height. We want to assure you that we are doing just fine. We do appreciate your continued patronage. We are working proactively with the LCB on what we can do with that sign to benefit our business.

It still sucks.

Terpestival 2019 and the Center for the study of Cannabis and Social Policy

At the end of February, I was invited by Center for the Study of Cannabis and Social Policy founder Dominic Corva to attend a private mixer and recognition party. The event was held in Seattle, WA, just under the monorail on 5th Ave, near the Belltown neighborhood. Of course, designated representatives of all the producers and processors who had entered their product in the competition were on hand to witness their potential victory as the cannabis competition results were released late in the evening.

I spent the early part of the evening consuming some fine cannabis from TopShelf Cannabis in the pre-roll format, chatting with some of the reps from Uncle Ike’s in Seattle, and visiting @RosinHoe in the dab room. I had my good friend and R&D/production guy at Optimum Extracts, Mag Hanfbauer, sharing my company, as well as my girlfriend, Heather, and a lot of industry types. Olalla soft drinks were present (I LOVED THE FRUIT PUNCH!), Heather was enjoying some CBD infused Ale from Coalition Brewing, and the dabs brought from personal stashes were flashing on terp-delivering e-nails up in the dab shack. I hit some amazing Hindu Kush from Puffin Farms (omg super terpy) and something amazing from Megan at Kush Creams (available at Tacoma House of Cannabis) on her ridiculous rig.

After quelling our desires for a warm, fuzzy “high” feeling, we settled in to our seats for a keynote speech from Dr. Ethan Russo. My mom, Grandma Cat Jeter, has always said that cannabis leads to harder things . . . like graduate school. Well, in this case, it led me to Dr. Russo’s talk, and it was nothing short of a seminar on the organic chemistry of the cannabis plant, including its cannabinoids and terpenes. I highly recommend you take the chance to watch the 57 minute video about terpenes and cannabinoids at the link in his name, above.

Dinner followed, and was a fabulous vegetarian Greek / Mediterranean catered spread from Eggs and Plants, the kitchen / eatery attached to the Seattle Glassblowing Studio. Falafel, tahini, red cabbage salad, hummus, pitas, and other wonderful goodies were stacked to the rafters, and delicious.

After dinner and a few more refreshments, we settled back in to the audience area and watched the awards ceremony unfold. Custom glass awards were blown by Seattle Glassblowing Studio (see Duncan Rolfson’s photo below) handed out one after the other to celebratory representatives from the competing farms (full results below).

As the evening came to a close, we said our goodbyes to friends new and old, thanked our hosts, and, taking with us some great knowledge about some amazing vendors, made our way safely into the night, onto the freeway, and home to Tacoma.

MORE ABOUT CASP:

The Cannabis and Social Policy mission is to promote public and private efforts to use cannabis legalization to end the war on drugs, or “prohibition.” We understand prohibition as a cultural, political and economic phenomenon that has been very useful to many different people in many different places as a means of social control, not protecting society.
